A couple days after disappointment.
There is a story that goes if you get lost in the woods sit down and wait. If you find yourself down a trail that is unfamiliar or wrong or scary just stop. If the trees around you are tall and thick and overwhelming just stop...because if you have been responsible and have informed others of where you were going and what your plan was they will find you when you are lost.
Perhaps this is a bit dramatic for my situation but in many ways the decisions I've made over these past several months have taken me to a path this is a bit unfamiliar....to a place that isn't immediately recognizable...to a place that is definitely uncertain. What is wonderful is the number of you who have come to find me. With words you have reminded me of who and where I am and have given me some clarity about my experience. Thank you.
When disappointment from others come it's usually fairly easy to process through it and let it go. When we disappoint ourself it is sometimes harder because we have to be willing to recognize a different image of ourself in the mirror....that what we belived perhaps isn't true.....and we have to be OK with that.
I woke up this morning feeling a bit silly about how sullen and serious this has become. I decided that today was going to be a happy heart day...and so it has!
Peace,
Eric

Leo Tolstoy wrote a short story called 'The Three Questions' and they are:
1. When is the best time to do things?
2. Who is the most important one?
3. What is the right thing to do?
I am going to give you the answers (with the understanding that wherever you land you will read the story!!)
1. There is only 1 important time and that time is now.
2. The most important one is always the one you are with.
3. The most important thing is to do good for the one who is standing at your side.
Well you have just spent 5 days with Eric, yourself, so if the answers to these questions are 'right' by Eric nothing else matters.
Whether you are taking a breather or moving on you know the right answer and those who cares will accept YOUR answer.
PS: Everyone knows you do not hike the AT in heels and expect a hip not to give out (Doug - looks like the 40th will require a walker please arrange!!). Plus you are missing 4 minutes and touch my body. And on Idol .... you are in such a better place then the rest of us!! :) Get the point ...
Just head to a home ... or continue on and learn that those 3 questions apply when you are not only alone. If you get that ... then you can end the AT at whatever mile short of 2173 you are! Like someone before me said .. you know more today then you did yesterday ....
4 minutes. 4 minutes, madonna, madonna ... (just keeping it real) LOL!!!
Tim
You don't know me, but I met Eric in college, and if you are serious, I am in VA but I have a walker that I no longer use, I am in a wheelchair permanently now, BUT IT IS AVAILABLE FOR NOV. 12!!!
That would be the funniest thing ever!
